Ethers are represented by general formula R – O – R or R – O – R’ where R and R’ may be alkyl or aryl group. Ether is also called the dialkyl derivative of water (H – O – H) or alkyl derivatives of alcohol (R – O – H) Ether has the functional group (-O-) linked by alkyl or aryl groups in the both sides of O. Example: CH3-O-CH3 (Dimethyl Ether).
