Thermoelectric Effect Class 12

Thermoelectric Effect falls under Electricity and Magnetism portion of class 12 physics. Thermoelectric Effect Class 12 Physics Notes is designed according to the updated syllabus of 2080 and it covers all the important portion of the chapter. Students can easily prepare their notes, study for test or exams by taking the help of class 12 thermoelectric effect Notes.

  Chapter – 15
Thermoelectric Effect

The production of electricity by keeping the junctions of two dissimilar metals at different temperature is called thermoelectric effect. The electricity thus generated is called thermoelectricity. The e.m.f, thus produced across the junctions is called thermo e.m.f. and the current obtained from the thermo e.m.f. is called thermoelectric current.

  Chapter Overview
In this chapter we are going to learn the following concepts, ideas or topics;

  1. Thermoelectric Effect
  2. Thermocouple
  3. Seebeck Effect
  4. Thermoelectric series

Now let’s move on to the notes of thermoelectric effect. The PDF given below contains all the notes which includes all the topics mentioned in the chapter overview. We request students to use the notes of thermoelectric effect wisely for the purpose of making notes and preparing for the board examination.

You have to scroll down the PDF to view all the notes of thermoelectric effect. This PDF contains 6 slides in total which contains all the required notes of thermoelectric effect. It doesn’t contains the numerical problems so if you are searching for the numericals then you’ll find them in the next PDF given below.

Thermocouple

A thermocouple is an electrical device which consists two different electrical conductors (metals or semiconductors) forming an electrical junction. It produces a potential difference across its junctions Hot whenever there will a temperature difference between the across the junctions. i.e the voltage generated by a thermocouple depends on the temperature difference and the nature of the conductors which form the thermocouple

Thermoelectric Effect Class 12 Physics Numerical Questions

Those students who want to practice the numericals from thermoelectric effect chapter can practice the questions given in the PDF below. We have solved the selected numericals which will provide you the method of solving the numericals.

This PDF contains all the important numericals from thermoelectric effect chapter. In addition to the numericals it also contains all the required formulas used for solving the numerical problems of this chapter.

If you are willing to practise more numerical problems for your examination then you can practice the questions listed below.

  • The thermo-emfe and the temperature of hot junction @ satisfy a relation € = αθ + 6θ² where a = 4.1 × 10^-5, V(°C)^-1 and b = -4.1 x 10-8, V(°C) ^-2. If the cold junction temperature is 0°C find the neutral temperature. [Ans: 500°C]
  • The thermo-emf of a copper-constantan thermocouple and the temperature of the hot junction (0) with cold junction at 0°C, are related by the relation E = αθ + 6θ²; where E is in mV and θ in °C. The values of a and b are given as 41, μ, V, °C¯¹ and 0.041, μ, V, °C² respectively. What is the temperature of the hot junction when the thermo-emf is measured to be 5.5, mV? [Ans: 120°C]
  • The e.m.f E in a Cu-Fe thermocouple varies with the temperature θ’ of the hot junction keeping the temperature of the cold junction at 0°C is given as Ε, (μV) = 14, θ’ – 0.02θ. Determine the neutral temperature. [Ans: 350°C]

These questions are provided for practising purposes. So we haven’t provided the solutions of the numerical problems. However, if you are facing problems while solving these numericals then we request you to copy the questions and paste it in Google to get the solutions of that numericals. If that doesn’t work then you can contact us through our telegram channel to get the solutions.
